CLAJUD promotes the 1st edition of the “Legal Dialogues for Change”: impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on social participation projects in Latin America.

clajud

In this first edition, CLAJUD invites lawyers and lawyers from the Secretariat of International Relations of the Brazilian Association of Jurists for Democracy – ABJD, in a meeting between the two institutions, to reflect on the regional situation of political participation, progress and setbacks. in relation to the mobilization and protest processes in Latin America, with a special focus on the 2020-2021 electoral calendar.

In addition to the dramatic economic and health consequences in Latin America, the region is undergoing a serious neoliberal offensive and external interference that unbalances and threatens forms of social participation and democracy in the region. The elections scheduled for this year can be postponed and, at times, exceptional reasons omit political interests. In different countries, it is possible to perceive hybrid attacks against progressive projects and policies for social inclusion and protection of rights, which makes it necessary to reflect and coordinate the resistance responses.
